Frequently asked questions
Clear answers about photo analysis, privacy, safety, reports, and how to get useful results from CareLens. For questions not covered here, contact the CareLens team.
+Do I need an account to use CareLens?
You can read the public guides and FAQs without signing in. Creating an account is required before you take or upload a photo so reports and progress can be associated with your profile. Availability of product features may change over time.
+Is my photo stored, and is this biometric data?
Your photo is sent to the AI provider so it can generate your report, and is not retained on our servers unless you are signed in and explicitly save a report to your account. Analysing visible facial features counts as biometric data in some jurisdictions (Illinois BIPA, Texas CUBI, Washington, and the EU/UK GDPR), so we ask for your explicit consent before any analysis and delete the photo immediately after your report is produced. You can withdraw consent and delete saved reports at any time from your profile page.
+Is this medical advice?
No. CareLens offers AI-generated wellness and lifestyle guidance for general self-care. It is not a substitute for a licensed dermatologist, dietitian, doctor, or mental-health professional. For anything that persists, worsens, or worries you — for example a mole that is changing, a rash that isn't going away, or persistent hair loss — please book an appointment with a qualified clinician.
+How accurate is the analysis?
CareLens can only assess what is reliably visible in the image, so image quality matters. A clear, well-lit photo in even natural light, without filters or beauty effects, usually gives the most useful guidance. Blurry, shadowed or heavily edited photos may produce more limited results. The output is educational guidance, not a clinical measurement.
+What products do you recommend, and are you paid to recommend them?
We suggest example brands and ingredients that are widely available in most regions and across a range of budgets. We do not earn affiliate commissions or accept payment from any brand to be included in recommendations. The recommendations are intended to be ingredient- and routine-focused rather than driven by a promise of a particular brand outcome.
+Can I use CareLens on mobile?
Yes. It works on phones, tablets, and desktops in any modern browser. On mobile, you can also install it as a Progressive Web App from your browser's menu, which gives you an icon on your home screen and lets you launch it like a native app.
+Does CareLens work for all skin tones?
Yes. CareLens is designed to work with a range of skin tones and hair types, but performance can vary with lighting, camera quality, hair presentation, and other image conditions. If you find a specific recommendation doesn't fit your background, you can chat with the AI to ask for alternatives — for example, ingredients better suited to melanin-rich skin, or products commonly available in your region.
+How long does it take to see results from a plan?
Real skin and hair changes are gradual and vary by person, concern, routine, and underlying cause. Some cosmetic changes may be noticeable over weeks, while other concerns can take substantially longer. CareLens does not guarantee a particular timeline or outcome; persistent or concerning changes should be discussed with a qualified clinician.
+Can I ask follow-up questions after my report?
Yes. Every report includes an in-app AI chat that remembers your specific analysis during the conversation. You can ask it to swap out a product, adjust for pregnancy, work around a specific allergy, adapt the routine for a shorter time budget, or explain any recommendation in more depth.
+Is CareLens safe to use during pregnancy?
Pregnancy changes what products and treatments may be appropriate. CareLens should not be used to make pregnancy-related treatment decisions; ask your doctor, midwife, pharmacist, or another qualified professional before starting a new active ingredient or supplement.
+What if I don't have the products the AI recommends?
That's the most common question we get. Recommendations always include the key active ingredient so you can find any equivalent product available locally. You can also ask the AI directly in chat — for example, 'suggest a cheaper cleanser with the same ingredients' or 'what's available in India'.
+Do you support kids or teens?
CareLens is intended for adults 18 and over. The Terms of Service require users to be at least 18.
+How do I delete my account and data?
Sign in, go to your profile page, and use the delete account option, or email us via the Contact page. We remove your account, saved reports, and any associated data within a reasonable timeframe.
+What exactly does a CareLens report contain?
A report organizes visible skin and hair observations, general routine suggestions, product-category examples, and broader lifestyle or nutrition education. Scores are app-generated heuristics rather than clinical measurements, and a photo cannot establish a person's nutrient status, sleep quality, stress level, or hydration status. Every section ends with a short routine you can actually follow, ordered morning and evening, and a note on what to expect in two, six and twelve weeks.
+How should I photograph myself for the most useful report?
Stand facing a window during daylight, hold the camera at eye level about an arm's length away, remove glasses, and skip filters, beauty modes and makeup. Avoid overhead ceiling lights, which cast shadows the model can misread as texture. For hair, take a second photo of the parting or crown from above. If you plan to re-scan later, note where you stood so the next photo matches — consistent lighting is what makes score comparisons meaningful.
+How often should I re-scan?
About once every thirty days. Skin cell turnover runs roughly four weeks and hair grows around a centimetre a month, so scanning weekly mostly measures lighting and sleep, not progress. Taking repeat photos in similar lighting can make visual comparisons more consistent. Changes from skincare routines vary by person and product; CareLens does not promise a particular improvement timeline.
+Which AI models power the analysis, and can they be wrong?
CareLens uses current multimodal vision models through a managed AI gateway, with prompts written and reviewed by our team and constrained so the model describes visible cues rather than naming diseases. They can absolutely be wrong: lighting, camera sensors, makeup residue and even screen glare can shift a score. Treat the numbers as a consistent yardstick for tracking your own change over time, not as a clinical measurement.
+Does CareLens diagnose acne, eczema, psoriasis or hair loss conditions?
No, and it is designed not to. If your photo shows something that could be a medical condition, the report will say so in plain language and recommend you see a dermatologist or doctor rather than guessing at a name. Self-care guidance is for cosmetic and lifestyle concerns; anything painful, spreading, bleeding, rapidly changing or lasting more than a few weeks belongs with a clinician.
+Do you show advertising, and does it affect CareLens recommendations?
Selected public guides may display advertising. Ads are clearly identified and separated from editorial content and the CareLens analysis flow. Advertising is not used as an input to your report, and advertisers do not choose the guidance shown in your analysis.
+Which countries and languages does CareLens support?
The app works anywhere with a browser and is written in English today. Product suggestions are ingredient-first, so they translate to local brands in India, the US, the UK, the EU, the Gulf and Southeast Asia. If you tell the AI chat which country you shop in, it will name products commonly stocked there and adjust for climate — humid monsoon skincare looks very different from dry-winter skincare.
